A Week at Evolve RTC
Evolve’s residential programs provide round-the-clock support and supervision in warm, home-like settings, with no more than six teens per house. - 6 total sessions weekly, including 3 individual therapy, 2 family therapy, and 1 psychiatry session
- 24/7 support from trained counselors & skills coaches
Understanding Each Part of the Schedule
With every aspect of our programming guided by intention, compassion, and accountability, every element of a teen’s daily schedule plays a role in their healing. Explore the sections below to see how each part of the day supports stability, skill-building, and lasting change.
👥👥 Clinical Group Therapy
Group therapy is a vital part of our treatment approach. Each week, teens participate in over thirty hours of group sessions covering core evidence-based clinical work, experiential therapies, and other therapeutic groups. Topics include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Relapse Prevention, Seeking Safety, Anger Management, Healthy Relationships, Life Skills, Communication, Self-Esteem, Coping Ahead, Skills Application, Behavioral Activation, Creative Writing, Therapeutic Art, and Self-Identity. Experiential therapies like equine, art, music, psychodrama, and surf support emotional growth and skill development.
⚙️ DBT Skills Training
Evolve is especially known for our strong focus on DBT, a structured, skills-based therapy proven to help teens who struggle with intense emotions, strained relationships, or impulsive behaviors. All our programs include four DBT skills training groups per week, led by our clinical director and primary therapists. Teens learn essential skills in Mindfulness, Interpersonal Effectiveness, Emotion Regulation, and Distress Tolerance, then practice them throughout the week with counselors and skills coaches.
🎨 Experiential Therapy
Experiential therapies such as equine, art, music, psychodrama, or surf, support emotional growth and skill development. Our goal is to help teens create safe, positive experiences, explore their identities, and find activities that bring them joy and purpose. Please note that experiential therapies vary by location, and can be dependent on weather.
📚 Education Time
At Evolve, teens continue their education in a calm, structured classroom setting where Academic Coordinators and counselors provide daily support. Each student follows a personalized academic plan and completes at least two hours of schoolwork every weekday. School time is both academic and therapeutic, giving teens a chance to stay connected to their coursework while practicing the coping skills they are learning. Our goal is to help teens maintain academic momentum, rebuild confidence, and return to school feeling prepared and capable.
🥗 Meals
Nutrition matters, and food can help teens feel more at home. Our chefs prepare fresh, balanced meals based on nutrition standards designed by a registered dietitian. They can accommodate any dietary or religious restrictions and do their best to customize menus to incorporate each teen’s preferences. Our clients and staff enjoy plated meals together at the dining table each day.
🩺 Medication Pass
Medication pass times are built into the daily schedule to support consistency, safety, and routine. Our staff are trained in self-assisted medication administration, and medication is never required. Any recommendations or changes are discussed with and approved by both the teen and their parents, ensuring transparency and informed decision-making throughout treatment. During medication pass times, nurses also check and record vital signs.
🚿 Hygiene
Healthy hygiene habits support overall well-being. Our staff encourage teens to build consistent personal care routines, with dedicated hygiene time built into each day’s schedule. Each teen receives a personal hygiene box stocked with their own set of products and may also bring products from home.
🧹 Chores & Life Skills
We intentionally include light household responsibilities to help teens build practical life skills, accountability, and confidence. Each day, clients participate in shared chores after mealtimes, such as rinsing dishes, sweeping, or taking out the trash, which encourages teamwork and contribution to the community. Teens are also responsible for making their beds each morning and completing their own laundry once a week. Professional housekeeping is provided several times per week.
🧘♂️ Fitness
Every program includes an on-site gym, and most days have scheduled physical activity such as swimming, hiking, yoga, or free gym. Exercise helps teens manage stress and improve mood, energy, sleep, and overall well-being. By making movement a consistent part of treatment, we give teens a positive outlet that supports their recovery and encourages lifelong healthy habits.
🧩 Recreational Time
At Evolve, we want teens to see that a healthy, well-balanced life can still be fun. Each weekday includes dedicated recreation time where teens can socialize with peers, play games, spend time outside, read, or engage in other activities. On weekends, we enjoy supervised community outings like trips to the beach, movies, miniature golf, and more. These activities reward hard work and give teens a safe, supportive way to practice skills in the community, build healthy social connections, and enjoy a refreshing break from routine.
👨👩👧 Family Visitation
Family connection is an essential part of treatment at Evolve. Family visits take place every Sunday afternoon, and we encourage families to use this time for positive, enjoyable activities together. When in-person visits are not possible, teens can connect with their family via Zoom. As treatment progresses, the primary therapist will incorporate more family visitation and help parents prepare for off-site passes with their teen, giving them a chance to practice communication and coping skills in real-life settings.
📞 Phone Time
Scheduled phone time is built into the daily routine to help teens stay connected with family and friends while maintaining the structure and focus of treatment. Phone use is supervised and time-limited to support healthy boundaries and protect each teen’s progress.
😴 Sleep
Healthy sleep habits are important for overall mental health. Sleep has a direct impact on mood, emotional regulation, and impulse control, so we help teens establish consistent routines with set wake and sleep times.
📑 Therapeutic Diary Cards
Diary Cards help clients increase mindfulness of thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. Clients bring their attention to how emotions may influence their actions and make connections between skill use and effective behavior/avoidance of ineffective behavior.
At Evolve our Primary Therapist customize each Diary Card based on the teen’s individual clinical need and treatment goals. Diary Cards are completed every morning for the previous day.
Evolve’s programs have a 30-minute Diary Card Group that occurs every morning. The goal of the Diary Card Group is to give clients an opportunity to reflect and fill out their cards for the previous day. The Diary Card is an essential part of treatment and a helpful way to track treatment progress and outcomes. Each teen uses their cards to increase mindfulness of both ineffective and skillful behavior, as well as track their emotions and urges. Each teens Diary Card is edited by the Therapist, as needed, to reflect the individual’s target behaviors, such as the intensity of suicidal ideation and self-harm urges. Teens are given new cards each Monday and the completed cards are given to the Therapist.
⛳️ Therapeutic Outing
On weekends, we enjoy supervised community outings like trips to the beach, movies, miniature golf, and more. These activities reward hard work and give teens a safe, supportive way to practice skills in the community, build healthy social connections, and enjoy a refreshing break from routine.
What’s Happening Behind The Scenes That You Don’t See on the Schedule
A treatment schedule can show groups, meals, school time, and activities, but it does not always show the full clinical support happening throughout the day. At Evolve, each teen is supported by a multidisciplinary team that includes board-certified child and adolescent psychiatrists, licensed therapists, nurses, residential counselors, and skills coaches.
Psychiatry Support
Each teen meets with a psychiatrist weekly, or more often when clinically indicated. Psychiatry sessions are scheduled throughout the week, with care taken to ensure teens are not pulled from core clinical groups. Our psychiatrists work closely with the primary therapist and nursing team to support accurate diagnosis, monitor progress, and make thoughtful adjustments to each teen’s treatment plan. This helps ensure psychiatric care is safe, coordinated, and responsive throughout the teen’s stay.
Individual & Family Therapy
Teens meet with their primary therapist at least three times per week for individual therapy, with additional check-ins available as needed. Therapists also provide weekly family therapy and work closely with parents to schedule sessions at times that support both the family’s availability and the teen’s treatment plan. Like psychiatry sessions, individual and family therapy are scheduled in a way that protects time for core clinical programming.
24/7 Skills Coaching
A key part of residential treatment at Evolve is real-time skills coaching. Teens are not only learning DBT and therapeutic skills in groups and individual therapy, they are practicing those skills throughout the day with support from trained staff. Our residential counselors and skills coaches are available 24/7 to help teens use coping strategies, emotion regulation tools, and communication skills in the moment, when challenges actually arise. This hands-on practice helps teens build confidence using their skills outside of formal sessions, supporting long-term progress beyond treatment.
Safety & Supervision
Safety is our top priority. Evolve is accredited by both CARF and The Joint Commission, fully licensed by the state, and all staff are vetted through background checks. Teens receive round-the-clock support, including line-of-sight supervision and 1:1 observation when clinically needed. Overnight, two awake staff members complete 15-minute bed checks, cameras are placed in common areas, and potentially dangerous items are secured. These layers of oversight create a safe, structured environment where teens can focus on healing.
Evolve treatment center was such a positive influence for our daughter! We were apprehensive at first with any residential facility, but right off the bat- the staff made the transition seamless. The level of professionalism combined with caring and compassion was next level. We were so relieved that our daughter was learning tools to cope with the trials of everyday life and mental health struggles.
