About Evolve's Clinical Outcome Program

Cutting-Edge Technology Ensures Data-Driven and Individualized Care for Teens
Evolve’s Clinical Outcomes Program underwent development for several years, including a beta testing period, before its official launch in late 2022. Development was a collaborative effort between Evolve’s clinical and medical leaders, with the expert consultation of Dr. Bradley Peterson, President of Evolve Psychiatry, Chief of Adolescent Psychiatry at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, and Director of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the University of Southern California.
Our Outcomes Program utilizes a cutting-edge tool called the Kiddie−Computerized Adaptive Test, or “K-CAT,” a research-backed and validated assessment tool for youth ages 7-17. Evolve clients complete this self-report assessment at admission, every two weeks throughout residential treatment, and at discharge. Our expert clinicians leverage the K-CAT to provide accurate diagnoses, assess progress, and measure overall treatment outcomes. Additionally, the insights gained from this data help us understand what works best for each teen, enabling us to refine our programs and treatment plans to deliver truly personalized care.
At Evolve, we’re dedicated to supporting teens and families every step of the way, ensuring they receive the highest quality care and the best possible outcomes. Our Clinical Outcomes Program reflects our unwavering commitment to delivering exceptional, evidence-based care for substance use disorders and teen mental health treatment. To learn more about the K-CAT and the compelling reasons why we chose to use it over other tools, download our complete outcomes study.

“It was important to our development team that Evolve’s outcomes program went above and beyond the basic data sets compiled by most treatment centers, which is what led the team to adopt the use of an adaptive tool called the K-CAT. This tool allows our teams to collect robust clinical data that can guide individualized care and provide a more detailed understanding of clinical outcomes and treatment efficacy. We hope that you will find our results compelling and strong evidence that real change happens here. We remain thankful for the privilege to be a part of that process for each family that comes through our doors.”

Frequently Asked Questions

Evolve’s Clinical Outcomes Program utilizes a cutting-edge tool called the Kiddie−Computerized Adaptive Test (“K-CAT”). Developed by Adaptive Testing Technologies, the “K-CAT” is a researched-backed and validated assessment tool for youth ages 7-17. Questions are selected from a large bank of over 2,000 items and are customized to the user so that the most precise results possible are provided. The K-CAT has been studied rigorously and published in leading peer-reviewed journals, including the Journal of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.

To learn more about the K-CAT, download our complete outcomes study.

The K-CAT stands out as a superior tool due to its adaptive testing technology and ability to track symptom changes over time. Unlike other assessment tools, like the PHQ-9 and GAD-7, that have a narrower scope and need to be combined with other tools to give a clear clinical picture, the K-CAT gives our clinicians the ability to easily assess a variety of clinical domains throughout treatment, all in one assessment. With its dynamic design, the K-CAT adapts to each teen’s responses, delivering clinical diagnoses and ratings of symptom severity that are both accurate and tailored to the individual teen. This makes it especially valuable for clinicians working with adolescents, as it provides a holistic view of their mental health and supports data-driven, individualized care.
