Fieldwork and Practicum Opportunities
Evolve offers in-person fieldwork and practicum placements at our adolescent residential treatment centers. These opportunities give master’s-level students hands-on experience supporting teens with complex mental health, substance use, and behavioral challenges.
Under the supervision of an assigned field instructor, you will have opportunities to:
- Design and lead a weekly therapeutic group.
- Provide crisis management support within the residential treatment environment.
- Observe clinical assessments and assist with case management.
- Receive foundational Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) training.
- Learn crisis intervention strategies and develop diagnostic skills.
- Gain an understanding of the treatment process, from admission through discharge.
Students do not carry their own client caseload. We also work with students to identify opportunities that align with their career interests and learning objectives.
Please note that academic placements at Evolve are unpaid and must be completed for school credit.
Who We’re Looking For
We welcome applications from students currently enrolled in master’s-level Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy (MFT), or Professional Clinical Counseling (LPCC) programs who will receive school credit for their placement.
Strong candidates demonstrate maturity, sensitivity, and a readiness to work with teens who need a high level of clinical support. Many of our clients experience severe depression, anxiety, self-harming behaviors, suicidal ideation, and significant substance use. Applicants should be prepared to support teens in an intensive residential treatment setting.
Applicants must:
-
Be over 21 years old.
-
Pass a Live Scan background check.
-
Commit to at least 16 hours per week for a minimum of two semesters or quarters during the academic year.
-
Attend their placement in person at an Evolve residential treatment center.
Placements are unpaid and may lead to opportunities for paid, full-time employment after graduation. Many former Evolve trainees now work within our organization as licensed clinicians.
Career Opportunities After Graduation
An academic placement can be the first step toward a career at Evolve. Many students who complete their placements with us transition into paid, full-time positions after graduation, and many former trainees now serve as licensed clinicians within our organization.
