If your teen has written or spoken about wanting to die or indicated plans to harm themselves, these suicidal thoughts or behaviors should always be taken very seriously and never ignored.

Adolescent suicide has been on the rise for the past several decades.  In the U.S. suicide is one of the top two leading causes of death among teens.  Teens are faced with more pressures and challenges today than ever before. Those who are emotionally fragile and lack sufficient support are especially vulnerable to suicidal thoughts and behaviors.

Most teens who commit suicide give clear warning signs.  However, these signs can be easily overlooked or chalked up to “typical adolescent drama” if you, as a parent, don’t know how to identify them. Adolescents who suffer from an underlying mental health disorder are especially vulnerable to suicidal thoughts and behaviors. Depression, eating disorders, borderline personality disorder, PTSD/trauma, obsessive compulsive disorder, and bipolar disorder are just some of the mental health issues that can lead to suicidal thoughts and behaviors.

When your teenager suffers from suicidal thoughts, all you can think about is how to help them. You want your child to be whole. You want your child to live a happy and fulfilling life. You want what’s best for them – not tomorrow, not next week, but right now. You may have exhausted all your resources. You are likely terrified that you will miss signs of distress, and adolescents can be quite adept at hiding painful emotions from adults.

Help Is Just a Phone Call Away

You’re tired of hearing advice from people who have no idea what you’re going through. Tired of hearing there’s no instruction manual for children. Tired of platitudes like we all do the best we can or we’re all just making it up as we go along.

At Evolve, we don’t make anything up. We know how to help – and we can help right now.

Evolve Treatment for Suicidal Teens Works

The right care, right now, can make a lifetime of difference.

Evolve Treatment Centers offer the highest caliber of care for teens ages 12-17, struggling with suicidal ideation and the accompanying mental health issues. We believe teens thrive when they receive comprehensive professional treatment that addresses their physical, psychological, emotional, and educational development. Our team of experienced, highly qualified, fully licensed clinical and medical professionals specialize in working with teens and we understand their unique needs. Evolve is accredited by CARF and The Joint Commission.

We offer Residential (RTC), Partial Hospitalization (PHP), and Intensive Outpatient (IOP) levels of care. Our evidence-based treatments include dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), family therapy, and 12-step community support. All clients participate in weekly individual sessions with a primary therapist and psychiatrist.

Our clinical director, Dr. Lauren Kerwin, has more than 20 years of experience with adolescents. She’s developed innovative programs and has the expertise to implement a wide range of effective modes of therapy that give teens the tools to manage uncomfortable emotions, succeed in school, maintain better relationships, improve self-esteem, set healthy goals, make constructive choices, and commit to lifelong positive change. Through individual and group therapy, we teach teens the skills they need for distress tolerance, emotional regulation, and impulse control. Through intensive family therapy, coordination with previous providers, successful aftercare planning and alumni outreach, we help to create a cohesive and sustainable support network. For teens considering help at Evolve, we will ask you to do some hard work and face some challenges as you learn new coping skills.  You will apply your developing skills through participation in experiential therapies such as art, equine, music, surf, cooking, boxing, gardening, hiking, meditation, physical fitness, sports, and much more. Our goal is to help you create the foundation to a healthy and productive lifestyle beyond Evolve.
