Evolve Treatment Centers is looking for a passionate Head Chef to develop and cook well-balanced and tasty meals for adolescents who are in treatment for mental health and substance abuse issues. This position is located at our brand new residential treatment center located in Walnut Creek, CA.

The Chef manages the overall food service operation of the treatment center including food preparation and kitchen/dining room oversight, menu preparation, food shopping, and expense reports. Additionally, the Chef must ensure that safety and sanitation standards are upheld and must communicate with both the Facility Manager and the Director of the treatment center regularly.

** A considerable amount of training will be provided and candidates must be able to attend the 2-week intensive training from March 23rd-April 10th.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Cook lunch, dinner, and snacks for up to 12 people Monday-Friday
  • Prep lunch and dinner for the weekends and leave detailed instructions for clients and staff
  • Accommodate special diets including gluten free, vegan, dairy free, and nut free as needed
  • Create menu plans and compile routine reports in accordance with JCAHO standards
  • Oversee the inventory and purchasing of food, equipment, and supplies
  • Follow proper food storage protocol in accordance with JCAHO standards
  • Maintain high standards of cleanliness, sanitation, and safety
  • Arrange for the routine maintenance, sanitation, and upkeep of the treatment center kitchen equipment
  • Clean and maintain all food-service areas, including kitchen, dining room, and storage
  • Promote practices that seek to reduce waste, reuse items, and recycling

  • Must be able to work independently and take initiative to complete tasks

  • Add, subtract, multiple, and divide all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
  • Compute rates, ratios, and percentages
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge of current health and safety laws and practices
  • Knowledge of and experience in preparation of special dietary foods
  • Ability to work within a budget

Mandatory Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or Culinary School Certification
  • Undergraduate degree in a hospitality industry or food service-related field preferred
  • Must hold valid ServSafe and Food Handlers permit
  • Must have a clean record and can clear a Live Scan background check
